Help me give my students a space exploration learning experience that is out of this world! Your generous donation will help our classroom purchase a NASA Moon Globe, books, posters, and hands-on learning activities.
The students in our 5th-grade classroom show up every day excited and ready to learn. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures, ethnic groups, and neighborhoods.
Our classroom celebrates diversity, and all of our students enjoy working together in collaborative learning teams on a variety of projects, experiments, and investigations.
We have a student-centered classroom that uses project-based learning in order to create an engaging, hands-on/minds-on, learning environment. Some examples of our projects include designing spacecraft and vehicles for the moon mission, maintaining a bird feeder site and studying the birds that visit, hydroponics, studying motion with roller coasters, and more.
Learning That Is Out of This World is a critical part of acquiring the resources we need for our engineering design process and solar system units of instruction. Students will study space exploration from manned space launch to the discoveries that astronomers have made about our solar system. The students will use the books, posters, globe, and models as they research the moon and our solar system.
Students will participate in a space project where they will design a spacecraft, space vehicles, or a space module that could be used when our country returns to the moon, and the students will have the opportunity to collaborate with space professionals throughout the design process.
Following the project, students will tour a NASA facility, talk on a video teleconference with space professionals, and present their space projects to the school community.
