This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach special education students in kindergarten-3rd grade. My school is located in the heart of the inner city and has 87% minority enrollment. The students are almost entirely recipients of free and reduced-price lunch. Many of my students struggle with homelessness, food insecurity, and have parents with addictions.
My students work very hard, even though many of them have very little.
I want to give them the best opportunities for success and advocate for them in any way I can.
My Project
Technology plays an important role in schools today. Many children in low-socioeconomic areas (like our school) don't have access to technology outside of school. We try to teach them to take care of technology and show them skills they will need for the rest of their life.
My students love technology and need more opportunities to practice foundational skills!
These tablets will be used for educational purposes to practice letter recognition, letter sounds, sight words, reading, number recognition, basic addition and subtraction, and more. Students will be able to use a tablet while in the special education classroom while I am working with other students one-on-one. Thank you for considering supporting my students!
