Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are amazing and extremely eager to learn! They learn best by hands-on, active, engaging activities. They actually ask me very often, "What do we get to do next?"
Our school is an inner city school in South Central Texas, where crime is very high and most families struggle to meet their day to day needs.
Each and every child in my class has unique and special needs. They love learning and each one requires alternative ways to meet their needs and social and emotional growth.
I am so truly thankful and blessed to have most of my students for multiple years, allowing me to learn and understand their needs and learning styles better and see their tremendous growth!
My Project
By adding board games such as Chutes and Ladders, Pop and Learn! Letters & Numbers Game, etc. to my classroom, my students will have fun learning.
Building Social Skills is imperative to my special needs students’ overall growth.
They will learn core academics while building social skills and developing critical thinking skills.
Playing board games together is pivotal to their success!
Playing games is an enjoyable time for children and it provides as much learning opportunities as it does fun. It helps students develop critical thinking skills, cooperation and turn taking skills, following instructions, communication skills, and so much more. Specially, my students are working on playing fair and being happy for the winner – even if it is not them!
I look forward to cultivating these skills in my students by adding these games to my classroom!
