My Students

Being independent is an important part of life. My students have the desire to be independent but still need support with everyday tasks that we find simple.

I am a teacher of 8 inquisitive boys diagnosed with Autism.

They need a lot of hands-on teaching activities in order for them to learn. They love to ask questions, especially how and why questions, and really want to understand the world around them.

My Project

The materials my students need center around taking care of themselves. The cooking set will help them learn how to follow recipes and make simple dishes to eat. They will be able to start at the very simple stages, such as measuring and stirring, to more complex level such as using pots and pans. The pitchers will help them with their fine motor skills and focus skills. The cups, bowls, plates and utensils will help them learn appropriate table manners and eating skills. They will also be responsible for the cleaning of their dishes. The toothbrushes will be used after meals to reinforce dental care. The squid soap will help with keeping away germs and learning the appropriate amount of time to wash hands. These life skills must be taught in a functional and routine way so they can apply what is learned to their life outside of school.
