My Project

The great thing about teaching third graders is that they can venture off on discovery learning and get deep with their observations and discussions. We focus a lot on making those connections through our reading curriculum. But with these materials, I want to also provide them opportunities to connect through STEM manipulatives and play. Magnetic exploration is one of our main standards in science. Black lights can help us discover materials and critters that contain fluorescence. We can use discovery learning of measurement through cooking! Yes, even playing board games such as Checkers, Trouble, Jenga, etc. can teach us math skills, communication strategies, critical thinking, and problem-solving without any formal lesson attached.
