Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Learning Should Be Magical aims to provide my student with a Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil to enhance their learning experiences on the Apple iPad Pro. The Magic Keyboard will assist with keeping the iPad steady and upright while they are engaging with apps and games during therapy (my current case keeps flopping down and I typically need to lay it flat or prop it up somehow so it can remain steady). Also, many of my students prefer to look straight at the iPad rather than lower their eyes when it is placed flat down in front of them, which is seems to help them maintain a greater level of focus and alertness. When they are looking down, some students get sleepy and other have trouble shifting between tracking activity on the iPad and shifting their gaze to make eye contact with me. Eye level definitely matters! The Apple Pencil will also help students develop appropriate grip on a pencil, which will also help them with their grip when writing. Tapping on a tablet does not support this important developmental milestone.
Many young students in this digital age struggle with pencil grip because of tapping on a device, the Apple Pencil will support fine motor development by requiring them to maintain a tripod grasp/grip which will facilitate carryover of the skill when they are writing on paper with pencils.
Additionally, the Magic Keyboard will facilitate allowing them to look straight at the iPad without lowering their gaze, which will help maintain focus and alertness and avoid them from getting sleepy and disengaging with the provider during learning experiences.
