Learning Science Through Art

Help me give my students the opportunity to learn chemistry through stained glass. We need more tools and replacement grinders to continue this unit.

My Project

With the implementation of the new MN Science Standards and 8th grade switching to Physical Science, I incorporated my hobby of stained glass into our chemistry unit. Students learned about the entire process: from making the glass to the chemicals needed to clean and finish our collaborative pieces. Main concepts included: physical and chemical changes, chemical reactions, and properties of metals.

This year, I managed to secure some tools and grinders, but needing more tools for the students to use and the grinders I used were second hand and not 100% working.

I want to continue to build on this unit, as I chose to pay for a major portion of it out of my own pocket, but needing some assistance.

I would also be able to use these supplies to offer additional classes for community education, fundraising, and extracurricular opportunities.

Ms. Schilling will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by August 9.
