My Students
I teach music to students with special needs in a public school. My students love music and always enjoy participating in the musical activities. No matter what challenges they are facing from day to day, they joyously strive to become better musicians.
Most of my students are on the autism spectrum, and as capable and talented as they are, they would greatly benefit from the use of assistive technologies including iPads and other hands-on materials that are not necessarily provided from the school.
Some students are non-verbal, others have difficulties in motor skills. Being given the tools they need to express themselves musically means a lot more to them then just being able to do better in the music class.
My Project
During this difficult time that we are going through with COVID-19, the safety and productivity in the public education are focused on more than ever.
Nothing is sure at this point about the 2020-2021 school year, and as a teacher in special education I want to be equipped with at least 2 essentials this fall: natural disinfectant sprays and effective teaching resources.
Firstly, I deal with various biological fluids in the 6:1:1 setting, and everything needs to be disinfected constantly to prevent the spread of the virus within the classroom. Working in a building that has no sink in the classrooms or in the hallways, with only one bathroom available during pandemic for all of our in-person students both male and female, the only practical way to clean anything in the classroom is to use the disinfecting wipes and sprays. However, not just any disinfecting agent is safe for kids. Many of my students often chew on things, and I don’t want them to be putting things that were cleaned with some toxic disinfectant into their mouth. Seventh Generation’s disinfectant sprays are all natural and safe to use around children.
Secondly, students need to be socially distanced at all times, which is not an easy task as we all know. To make sure the social distancing to happen, I will maximize the use of individual stations rather than the group instructions. With that said, students will need something that they can work on at the stations. Teachers-Pay-Teachers has excellent learning resources for all needs.
By helping me purchase Seventh Generation’s disinfectant sprays and a Teachers-Pay-Teachers’ gift card, you are helping to provide my students with special needs a safe and productive learning environment.
