Every year the question always arises: Should the students get their own supplies or share? Every year I have my class share supplies at each table. This is such a simple way to build social skills while making materials easily accessible. While we all know supplies are an integral part of the class, specific supplies and setups vary from class to class. Not only do I keep the essentials at each table (pencils, erasers, scissors, glue), but students have books, folders, notebooks and other learning materials. Having these materials at their tables makes for efficient use of instructional time as we move between activities; however, these materials also take up a large amount of workspace.
Having these carts would allow for organized and easily accessible supplies and allow ample opportunities for students to build their social skills without even realizing it.
Having shared materials also encourages accountability and responsibility. Students have to think of others as they move through the classroom and share supplies. Additionally, they will have more table space to focus on their work and projects.
These carts might not be your typical classroom supply, but they will be incredibly helpful! I have a wonderful group of students this year who are so eager to learn.
