This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
The students at my school are early childhood aged Prek-2nd grade, and many specialized programs for students with disabilities. For the past 18 months they have been deprived of quality physical education. My students have not had much social interaction, cooperative play, or competition, which are all skills and rights that they are entitled to. Although all students suffered during the pandemic, the youngest scholars have lost the most. They are so excited to play, and I would just like to be able to provide them with more opportunities to learn by using all different types of equipment.
"My students enter the Gym everyday with a willingness to Play , and I just want to make the most of their experience.
PE is of the most popular subjects amongst the students at my school. I would love to continue to foster that love of movement, and Despite the lack of some equipment, my students show up daily ready for whatever Ms.Stubbs has planned. My students have taught me so much, and the most important is to make the best out of any situation.
The materials I am requesting will help to enhance the experiences of my scholars who are in grades Prek-2. Although they are receiving quality PE now, there are a few things missing that will surely enhance the experience. For instance, I am requesting poly spots, to help with spatial awareness, balance, use for many games and to help with color recognition and memory. I am requesting a whiteboard easel, as a place to store magnetic plickrs for students to use during formative and summative assessments. Students are used to writing on whiteboards in their classrooms, so providing them an opportunity to engage with more than just pen and paper, helps to reinforce classroom norms. I am requesting junior sized basketball because my gym has these amazing new basketball goals, and because my students are so small, they have not had much success with larger sized basketballs. Making sure that my scholars love PE and are getting the most out of our time together is what is most important to me. Working with students in early childhood, and instilling many foundational skills such as teamwork, cooperation, manipulative skills, locomotor skills, and cognitive skills is the only goal of mine. The items requested in this project will surely assist me in achieving this goal.
