Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have 25 students. They are cute, curious, silly, and excited about learning. These seven and eight-year-old students want to succeed in school. They are eager learners who want to learn! Learning to be successful is very challenging with all of the budget cuts that affect the classroom. 95% of the students are English Language Learners and the adults in their household have a very limited grasp of the English Language. They also come from very low-income families. Most of which are single parent run. They all get free school-provided lunches and breakfast from a Title I school. Teaching students in the 21st century has become a challenge. 95% of them will not have a bright future growing up in the area that we are in.

Our class always says, "Do not follow your dreams, chase them and catch them!"

My students are very eager to learn and express themselves in many different ways. In this age of having very diverse groups of students in a classroom and using the oldest form of technology when we can get it.

My Project

In this time of distance learning we teachers need to ready for high quality resolution learning output. My students need me to show them everything from English language arts to math. Each of the subjects need to be shown and taught without glitches and interruptions. The students need to be able to work independently and progress at their own rate. They will also be able to work at their work stations (at home) without falling over to see everything. The technology will be engaging and provide meaningful and immediate feedback to the students. Students will progress in their literacy and technology skills. Students will be able to use different word work applications, listen to stories, look up information for research projects, and practice math skills. The 17 inch HP Laptop will help students increase their confidence in using technology as well as expose them to the joy of electronic reading. This kind of technology is one way to level the playing field for my students as they go out into the world. The computer is just the vehicle with which my students will be able to support their S.T.E.M. skills through academic apps.

Technology is the great equalizer.

In the area that my students come from, 98% will end up either in gangs, jail or dead at an early age.
