For many children, their school becomes a place that is safe and comfortable. With that being said their classroom becomes their home away from home. This is true for my students. However, this second home is one that is extremely diverse in many aspects.
My students are bright and have so much to offer one another with all their different cultures and even life experiences.
My student's needs also vary depending on them. We know all individuals are different, which means their style of learning is different, and their emotional needs are different. I have students who fall on grade level, where others fall above and below too. Another diversity within the classroom is English Language Learners.
Each and every student within the class fits perfectly into our class puzzle. We, as a whole, are each a puzzle piece, put together to create one amazing piece of art. I like to call this art... family.
My Project
By incorporating flexible seating into the classroom, students will have the opportunity to freely move about. Flexible seating allows the students to chose their work station that will best suit their needs. Providing students with the standing desk and floor desk gives students many options to choose from which will encourage their engagement and success while working independently, in partnerships, or in small groups.
Flexible seating will help students to remain focused on the task they are working on, which will enhance their academic learning.
It is important that all students are comfortable during various activities and lesson throughout the day. Due to different types of learners within the classroom, students work best when they are most comfortable. It has been found that students lose focus when just sitting in one spot at their desk. Now, with flexible seating students have the option to stand and work, or sit on the floor where they wish, and utilize the floor desk. This is extremely beneficial for students who need to change up their seating preference.
