My Project
My students and I are so excited about a new program that we have started using this year in kindergarten called, Orton Gillingham. This program focuses on one letter and one or two sight words (red words) each week, using a multi-sensory approach. We learn how to correctly form each letter or red word on paper, in sand, on magna doodles, and using a bumpy screen underneath our papers.
We will use the green crayons from this project for our letter writing activities and the red crayons for tracing and writing our sight words (red words).
These crayons along with the bumpy screens provide a tactile way of learning the letters, letter sounds and words.
We are also asking for some alphabet books that focus on each letter to be read during its corresponding week. They will provide a nice literature connection which will help my students really pinpoint the letters and letter sounds.
