This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are part of a Spanish/English Dual Language program which is now entering its 3rd year at our elementary school. It is very exciting to see our students learning how to read, write and communicate in both languages! Our Dual Language program consists of two side by side classrooms with two teachers. In one classroom, English is only spoken and taught (my classroom). In the other classroom, Spanish is the primary language spoken and taught. Each classroom has an equal number of Spanish speaking children (English as New Language Learners) and English speaking children, and every other day the children alternate between the two classrooms.
My Project
This new Alphabet rug will be a colorful and motivating addition to our Dual Language (English) classroom. Our previous rug was oval and is no longer nice to sit on for classroom lessons.
The new Alphabet rug I have chosen is bright, engaging, and will help my students learn the letters in the English alphabet!
Because it is rectangular with squares for each letter, my students will also learn about rows, columns, squares, and rectangles. The individual letter sections also helps the students sit in a designated spot.
My students love practicing the letters they have learned each day, by finding the letter around the classroom and also on an alphabet rug!
