This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Having just met my students today it's hard to say I know them as well as I would in June. Today I met them and longed to talk to each and every one of them and give them the attention they deserved. They came with smiles, eagerness and a willingness to put another foot forward in a city where violence is the norm. Many of these children live in daily poverty and struggle in their home life. Their resilience and courage give me hope and inspire me to want to give them the "more" they deserve.

I want to reach each and every one of my learners.

With 30 students and no helper it is difficult. I want to get some computers that will enable the students to work at their levels. Later I can go back and evaluate what they have done and assist them. This will enable me to work in person with those learners while others are engaged in meaningful differentiated work that will aide in directing my instruction! In other words, I'll have an assistant which will give me tools to provide them with the small group instruction they need and crave.

My Project

These laptops will enable students to use software and help them practice skills at their own pace. The best part about the practice is that messages are then sent to the teacher where I can see which skills need reinforcing by me in small groups.

Learning is not a one size fits all process.

With a large class of 31 students it is difficult to reach each learner efficiently while they are at such varying levels. With the laptops, students will be able to work on both literacy and math skills and give me information which I can examine at a later time. This information is valuable because I can then plan for instruction in small groups based on where the students are struggling.

Students can then get the individualized instruction which they need in a timely fashion.

Students currently have no computers in the classroom to practice these skills and often have little access to the internet at home.
