Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
iPads can help our students overcome their limitations and have out of this world experiences at the touch of their fingers. I have seen non-responsive students with autism and other disabilities come alive and engage in instruction when given access to an iPad.
Our Kindergarten-Second grade special education classes include students who are on the Autism Spectrum, Intellectually Disabled or exhibit severe Speech and Language Delays.
We are a self-contained special education school. Our school is housed in an impoverished neighborhood in the Bronx, New York. Many of our students are also English Language Learners with limited economic resources or reside in shelters and do not have access to technology.
My Project
Our goal is to increase student engagement, receptive/expressive language, and fine motor skills by enhancing multisensory approaches into our learning environments. Integrating iPads into our learning centers allows for differentiated instruction and for students to engage and participate at their learning level.
Children are exposed to iPads and similar technology every day. Children are drawn to technology like moths to the flame. When presented with technology, students become excited and are eager to participate in activities. Expanding beyond the classroom, iPads are interactive windows toward understanding our students in school and at home. Parents will be able to use the iPads as a tool for communicating with their child and to see their progress. Just imagine a parent hearing/watching their child communicate with them for the first time or engaging in a game. Through the integration of various iPad learning applications the experiences are limitless.
We are going to make our students life-long learners.
In alignment with the K-2 Common Core Learning Standards, iPads will help them achieve their learning goals and provide them with experiences which will keep them excited about learning.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
