This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a self-contained ED classroom with 10 students in kindergarten through third grade. The students in my classroom have such spunk and when they are engaged in a project or activity, they are able to make real-life connections to their work. My students often struggle with socially acceptable behavior and problem solving. We do quite a bit of behavior management instruction and practice throughout the day, as well as typical academic subjects. My students change my life every day!
My Project
Special needs students often struggle to remain engaged in tasks that require them to stay in one place. The students in my EBD classroom love to “learn on the move”. Oftentimes, the kids in my class are unable to focus and obtain information in a traditional academic desk/chair situation. Flexible seating options will allow my students to engage in learning activities while sitting in a way that permits them to move around and stay attentive for longer periods of time. “Wobble” chairs, yoga balls and sensory seat cushions are all great ways for my students to take advantage of flexible seating.
