My Students

As a librarian in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am aiming to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

Our library is the center of learning in our diverse population.

Our students visit the library often for a variety of reasons, and I want to continue to serve them in all subject areas such as English, math, science, social studies, and robotics.

Our elementary school is a large, urban, public school with almost five hundred students. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with over seventy percent of our students receiving free lunch. The ethnic breakdown of the school is 39% white, 37% Hispanic, 14% black, and 8% Asian.

My Project

Technology is everywhere and constantly changing. Students need the opportunity to use and work on 21st-century tablets, such as the Microsoft Go.

Using technology in the library gives students the opportunity to develop their ethical digital citizenship skills.

The tablet will help students become creators instead of users of technology.

A Microsoft Surface Go would be a huge asset in the library. It can be a laptop and a tablet at the same time. The students can research and find videos and websites just like an iPad but the advantage of a Surface Go is the capability of the USB port. The type cover just attaches to the Surface Go and now you can type just as if you were using a laptop!

Students can also save their work on a flash drive and take it with them.

In addition, the Surface Go can be used to record videos, create presentation slides, and connect to the internet.

We’ve only scratched the surface of the endless possibilities and creativity a Surface Go offers! I look forward to having my students use and learn on new resources and technology.
