This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in fifth grade gifted and/or the 5th grade Extended Foreign Language program. They come from warm and caring families. Two-thirds of my students have recently exited the ESOL (English Second Language Learner) program in the past year.
My students are energetic learners that learn best when they are given the opportunity to move and explore different learning settings.
Specifically, they love to express themselves and take an active role in the learning process. In addition, all of my fifth graders are looking forward to applying to a magnet school of their choice at the end of this school year. They are looking forward to challenging themselves even more as they embark on their next educational adventure and I want to send them off ready to accept any challenges that await them.
My Project
This laptop will bring us one step closer to having a fully functioning flexible seating learning environment. In order to maximize their flexible seating options, they need access to laptops so they can successfully continue working on their educational computer programs without the constraints of having to be hard-wired to a wall. Research shows that children learn best when they feel comfortable in their environment, as such my goal is to be able to provide each child in my class the opportunity to take control of their learning. With this ownership they will thrive. This laptop is just a starting point but every little step gets us one step closer to that goal.
