Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a low-income school district, I see my students facing several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I am the 3rd-5th grade, SLD Teacher at an inner-city school in Mid-City Los Angeles. Many of my students come from low income backgrounds and often school items aren’t available to them because of financial hardships. Parents have to make the tough decision to pay a bill or put food on the table and forgoing school essentials that will help their children excel. My students are often many grade levels behind, nonverbal, but also full of many talents. Despite these many challenges, my students always come ready to learn.
My goal is for all my students to recognize and embrace their unlimited potential and realize their goals and dreams.
From the minute, they walk into the classroom, I focus on helping my students develop a growth mindset. We learn to embrace our differences and help spread Autism awareness. By doing these things, I hope to empower my students to continue a path of academic excellence.
My Project
The possibilities are endless when students are able to move around the room to learn. I am requesting a class set of clipboards and whiteboards that will give my students the freedom to take learning outdoors, around the community, and move about the classroom.
Providing students with tangible learning resources elevates student’s motivation and engagement.
Having a class set of whiteboards will allow students to draft ideas before transferring them to paper. Also these whiteboards will help us be more environmentally friendly by reducing the amount of paper we use. The clipboards will also be used for the times when we travel to different areas of the school to complete assignments. Most importantly, students will be able to use these clipboards during writing. Students will be able to find an area in the classroom to write and develop their personal narratives. Thank you for supporting my students' growth!
