Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a four year-old Head Start/VPK classroom. Our parents often work two jobs just to feed and clothe their families. For this reason, school supplies often come from my pocket. I teach at a Title I school where over 99% of the students receive free and reduced price lunch. Most of my students are learning English as a second language and need hands-on materials to help them learn.
They are awesome students who love to learn.
Using many hands-on materials help them become a success.
My Project
In PreK, we do many activities on the floor. A new rug with numbers and letters will support the students learning. I enjoy sitting on the floor with the children teaching them lessons, the children also enjoy this. The rug we currently have has many stains on it.
A new rug with letters and numbers will allow us to play learning games while focusing on math and literacy.
Playing these learning activities while moving around supports learning in PreK. The other benefit is, some of my students have a hard time siting still while learning. The new rug will allow them to move and learn at the same time.
