Learning New Language Through My Own

My students need bilingual books that revolve around stories and people who represent their culture and home countries. They love being able to see their first language in the books they read.

My Students

I am teaching an awesome group of ELL (English Language Learners) students in a rural school full of heart and energy! I am blessed to teach a group of students who come from various cultural backgrounds. Some of our favorite times together are for read alouds! They get excited to see what book we will read next! I love having a variety of books for them to choose from!

"Every student can learn to love reading, but to love it they must see themselves in the literature." I want to provide my students with books that tell the stories of their unique cultural backgrounds!

I want them to read about people who are just like them, seeing characters overcome the obstacles they face each day. I also want them to see their own language in the books they read. This is why bilingual books are so important to them.

My Project

These amazing books are written by Latino authors who inspire Latino children to read more and learn a new language through stories that have characters and stories that represent their first language and cultures. Using a student's first language helps them learn their new language faster. By giving them high interest books, they will want to read even more. Reading is such a key component to learning a new language.

My students will be able to see their own cultures and languages come to life through these amazing stories.

They will help motivate them to keep reading and learn more English!
