Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The curriculum I use promotes many hands-on learning activities, as well as learning through music and movement. These activities happen in various centers I have set up in the room. Appropriate sturdy materials are the key to the children learning and improving their academic and social skills.

I have a class of nine preschool students whose ages range from 3-5 years old.

All of the students have a variety of mild to moderate special needs ranging from developmental delays, speech delays, fine motor delays, and emotional/behavioral issues. They learn so much throughout the year and it's amazing to witness their progress! There is a team of teachers and staff that support their learning. Whether it's through gym activities, art activities, fun speech, O.T., P.T. or music activities, a lot of support is in place to help all of my students achieve a variety of goals.

My Project

My students school day is filled with opportunities to learn basic math concepts. They sing songs where we count down from five, they count how many students are in class, and they count how many goldfish crackers they have at snack time. They also need to be exposed to and explore other math concepts with the right materials during math center time.

Providing these specific math materials - Tangrams, color cubes, tweezers, dough scissors, pattern blocks, and pony beads will help my students explore and learn many basic math concepts.

Through structured activities they will learn number sense, geometry, spatial relations, measurement, and colors. These activities also further develop their fine motor skills. The tangrams, pattern blocks, and geoboard will introduce geometry and spatial relations. The tweezers, color cubes, dough scissors and pony beads will introduce number sense, measurement, and colors
