This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are learning Spanish as a second language in an immersion school. I teach them Math and Spanish and we do new Math centers every week. A couple of years ago I started to incorporate Montessori Math materials and I was amazed to see how they helped my students to guide their learning.

These materials have been key to a deep understanding of place value, strategies to improve their fluency, and so engaging and motivating to keep learning Math.

I would love to incorporate more and new sets of materials as well as documenting how they can be successfully introduced into a non Montessori classroom.

My Project

We do new Math centers every week and every time I use Montessori materials they enjoy the activity a lot and really focus deeply. They make a difference because the materials try to guide the child as much as possible so they are able to do the activity successfully and independently.

It is so rewarding to see children that struggle in Math, enjoying while learning because they can control and self correct themselves.

I just need more materials to keep bringing the best of this methodology to the classroom. I created some materials on my own but they won't last for so long.
