Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My middle school mathematics classroom is a place where students are encouraged to learn through discovery. Students are engaged in hands-on learning opportunities where they manipulate the concepts being taught to them so they can take ownership of their learning experience.
Students in my classroom face a lot challenges.
Many of them are English Language Learners who are attempting to learn challenging math concepts while still trying to master a new language. Others do not have access to technology at home, and the only chance they have to use tablets or computers is while they are at school. A lot of them are also on free and reduced-price lunch.
It is my belief that students should be engaged in a learning experience that is both challenging and fun so they can be equipped with the skills they need for tomorrow while having fun today!
My Project
My 6th grade students will be using an Interactive Math Notebook to help them learn organizational and note taking skills. We will be using Astrobrights copy paper to help sort different skills being taught through the pages in their Interactive Notebooks.
As new middle school students, 6th graders need a lot of guidance on taking notes and keeping their subject materials organized.
Through the use of an Interactive Notebook with bright organized pages, created with the glue, scissors and paper I am requesting, I plan to teach my students organizational skills that will set them up for success in the years to come and provide them with bright and engaging notes that will keep their interest.
