This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hi there! My students love to learn Math and Literacy skills in Spanish. I teach 2 classes in the Dual Language Immersion program in Spanish to 3rd graders. This year I have 54 students. Most of them can only speak Spanish while they are in class due to the small Hispanic population; however, they love to practice their language skills every moment they can. They come in excited to learn and are very proud of learning a different language. A lot of the students own animals, so it is important for me to provide them with a hands-on experience as that is what they are used to and enjoy the most.
My Project
I have asked for math sets that will help me give my students a hands-on approach when it comes to learning math in Spanish. I asked for fraction sets, so that students can practice putting fractions on a numberline, diving shapes into fractions and comparing equivalent fractions. I also wanted to have fractions in different shapes so they can represent those and see the difference between what fractions look like. I also asked for addition and subtraction set. These sets have numbered chips that will help my student to represent numbers in a different way to add, subtract and multiply, so they can be more accurate when practicing those skills. I also would like to get markers as we use them a lot in class for quick responses in the whiteboards and for the students to show their work while doing math. I would like to get whiteboards with fractions in them, so students can practice dividing a number line into different fraction. Help me give my students different ways to engage in math. I asked for pencils and erasers as the students use them a lot, and with so many students I need some help to keep up with the demand. The classroom supplies and fraction sets will help my students represent fractions in various ways, as well as addition, subtraction and multiplication.
