My Students

Kinesthetic, Visual, and Auditory..... Name a learning style and I can find one of my students that uses it to learn.

I teach 104 6th graders the new common core math.

My students and I have learned about each of the learning styles- kinesthetic, visual and auditory. In each of my 4 classes, I have a fraction of students in each learning style. I have expressed my goal to them to make sure that I teach to each learning style, so they all have the same opportunity to learn and love math.

My Project

The new common core embraces the "why" behind all of our math concepts and not just the "how". The "why" is a little more difficult to grasp, so these math manipulatives will help my students explore and visually see the "why" behind each problem. I have the students discover learn through math tasks, where they can use the manipulatives to explain their ideas and answers. These manipulative will help my kinesthetic and visual learners.

Donations to my project will not only help my current 6th grade students, but they will also help my future 6th grade students for many years to come.

A lot of students feel that they are not good at math and that they will never be able to be good at it, but my goal is to reach each of my students through their learning styles and help them become successful in math.
