This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first-year teacher in Rhode Island. Our elementary school is the largest urban elementary school in New England with almost 1,000 K - 5th graders. Over ninety percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Many are recent immigrants and English Language Learners. All of them are assets to our community and deserve an excellent education.

I teach fourth grade English Language Arts.

My students come from diverse, predominately low-income backgrounds.

My Project

We use technology almost every single day in our classroom for all subjects (ELA, math and science). Blended learning increases engagement and helps personalize learning for students. Unfortunately, we don't have enough headphones for each student to use with their Chromebooks (52). Many of the headphones we do have are broken or breaking. Without working headphones, the sound from our Chromebooks can quickly become distracting.

New headphones would improve our overall focus and help us make the most out of our technology time.
