A typical day in my classroom looks and sounds like children working together in small groups, learning to read, write, solve math problems but most importantly think!
My building is located in an urban setting within a high poverty area, and it consists of Pre-K through second grade classrooms as well.
as cross categorical classrooms. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students thrive off of structure, routines, and organization. My students may not always come to school prepared for the day but one thing they all do come with is a love of learning.
"You'll never be bored when you try something new. There's really no limit to what you can do!" - Dr. Seuss
Even though my students are in first grade many of them are still lacking early language skills. The Magnetic Language Learning Rods Complete Set and the Alphabet Picture Magnets will give my students the opportunities to build those language skills that many of them are not afforded at home.
"By 3 years of age, there is a 30 million word gap between children from the wealthiest and the poorest families" -NAEYC .
My job is to help close that gap any way that I can. I would utilize the Magnetic Language Learning Rods during my small groups to ensure my students are getting the language skills they need. Once I know they have the correct vocabulary, I will have my students using them during independent learning centers to reinforce their language skills. The Alphabet Picture Magnets I would use during whole and small group activities to strengthen their language skills and letter recognition.
