This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach kindergarten and first-grade students at a high poverty school in North Carolina. The majority of our students enter school already behind: many have not had any school experience prior to their first day of kindergarten. We begin working to close the achievement gap on the first day of school! Our students are resilient and love school. They are sad on the last day and are excited to return in July. We are working hard each day to ensure that they make the growth they need to be successful in school.
My Project
I am requesting a collection of books for my own personal benefit but also to share with my colleagues. The books I am requesting are: "Sit and Get" Won't Grow Dendrites, Differentiated Coaching, Blend, Smarter Leaders, Smarter Teams and Never Underestimate Your Teachers. My colleagues and I are working on improving our teacher leadership because many teachers at our school are beginning teachers. We want to make sure that the veteran teachers are knowledgeable in the field of teacher leadership so that we can support the beginning teachers as best as we can. I'm so excited to read these books and share them with others!
