Learning Like a Student: Requesting Books About Best Practices!
I need to learn how my students learn best. These resources will help me to train myself (and other teachers) to reach even the most reluctant students in new ways!
My students are a wonderful group of amazing kids who have goals and aspirations just like many children. However, many struggle with the barriers of poverty, language acquisition, special needs and parents working very long hours. Some of our children have emotional needs and are living in homeless shelter motels that have recently opened in our area.
My high-poverty students strive to succeed but are limited by the lack of resources available in our small public school environment.
We're trying hard to change that dynamic! Many of my students dream of becoming science and technology leaders. I endeavor to support their dreams to the best of my abilities. My kids are the hardest working group of individuals I've been given the joy of educating!
My Project
I am requesting professional development resources for experiences that will empower me to be a more effective educator in the category of School Culture and Engaging Classrooms. With the knowledge and experiences I glean from these materials, I will become a more engaging and effective teacher. I will be cheerfully sharing the knowledge and expertise that I garner from these texts with my colleagues. The Gates Foundation believes "that when teachers invest in their own development, they help to create student-ready schools". I believe I will become a better teacher in the subject areas that teach through the use of these academically challenging resources.
The Gates Foundation is eager to support teachers learning the things that matter the most to them, and my students' future is what matters the most to me!
Some of the reading material I have requested is subject-based, such as Integrating Technology into the Curriculum, as well as Science, Engineering and Art disciplines. Some of the texts requested are meant to challenge my current teaching practices to incorporate more civics, student-centered, service-oriented or out-of-the-box teaching methods and practices.
I want to learn, grow and discover different academic approaches through the use of these texts. I want to enhance my professional knowledge and teaching practices in an effort to increase the academic and social benefits for my students. I want to be the best teacher I can be for my students because my Kids Deserve It!
