This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
There are over 1000 students enrolled in grades 6 through 8 at our school. Over 50% of our student population participates in the free and reduced lunch program.
Regardless of their economic background, the students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day.
Our goal is to prepare our students for high school and beyond. We want them to know that we believe in them and they can do anything.
My Project
My co-teacher and I teach students in a self-contained Multiple Disabilities classroom. Our students come to us with various abilities and challenges. However, one goal across the board for all of our students is life skills. We are teaching them the skills needed to live life after high school.
Our students are making plans to host a weekly bake sale where they create a menu, gather the supplies, make the items and sell what they create.
We currently have a refrigerator but are in desperate need of a working stove. The money made from these bake sales will be used to take the students on community outings. Having a stove in the classroom will greatly expand what my students are able to provide at their bake sales as well as develop many more life skills.
