This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything. - Plato
My school is a large, Title I school with a diverse student population from varying economic backgrounds.
We educate over 1200 kids from pre-k to 5th grade. Resources can be limited, particularly for music. I teach second graders Spanish in a dual language program (Spanish-English), designed to teach kids fluency in both languages.
My students enjoy music, and it increases their interest in learning a new language in a very entertaining way. In my classroom, music is used to remove language barriers. It inspires my students to become creative and independent.
My Project
Music is a very effective tool in the attainment of a foreign language. I am requesting materials to create a music area within my classroom. With a speaker and a carpet, I will able to incorporate music into my students’ lessons in order to better enhance their learning. It will make complex concepts more accessible and enjoyable. Music has always been a valuable teaching tool for me. It facilitates language learning and allows my students, a mix of primary English and Spanish speakers, to understand each other and connect in a new way. Additionally, in lieu of a formal class, these materials will help us to meet the Language Arts Spanish component of the arts mandate.
For many of my students, their only exposure to music is at school.
Their faces light up when they sing. This enhancement will help my students become fluent Spanish speakers in a fun, create environment and develop a lifelong love of music.
