This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The population that I work with are a group of students that are majority English Language Learners. What this means is that they come from families where their home language is not primarily English. Most students come from Spanish speaking homes and some that are just now learning the English language.

One of the things that I am most proud of is the fact that my students work very hard and the assignments that I give them.

When something difficult comes their way, the tend to take it as a challenge and become really invested in the work that they are doing. They crave instruction and get really excited to learn.

My Project

Learning a language can be very challenging, and it can be even more challenging when the only instruction that you are getting is in a classroom setting. Having a ipad in the classroom will allow me to create a "center" where the students will be able practice their letters, sounds, and word recognition.

There are a various apps that I have found that are very interactive and engage the students.

The students will be able to use the ipad to listen to the letter name, sound, or word and practice it by repeating. This is a great way for students to practice independently while they have extra time in class. Along with this, the students will be able to use the device to research information for our projects. Within the next couple months, we will be working on couple projects. The first one will be a project that goes with our Class book "Return to Sender" and the second will be a WWII project that fifth grade does every year.

The main focus of this particular piece of technology will be to load it up with language learning applications so that our student get a better understanding of different languages. Although the main focus will be to teacher them English at a more rapid rate, those who have mastered both language can move on to a language that they would like to learn for fun.
