My Students

I am thrilled to return to the classroom after 17 very long years of school administration. I teach at A. P. R. Elementary in Fulton County which is a school that serves more than 60% free and reduced lunch students. There are a lot of students with both reading and math deficits. One of the main reasons why I wanted to go back to the classroom was to close their achievement gaps.

I teach a total of twenty six low achieving students, none of my students passed the third grade high stakes state exam last school year.

I am half way through the year and I have made gains, however, the stakes remain incredibly high. My students started this school year behind grade level in reading and math. I have managed to make gains, five of the twenty six are actually on level. However, I need some resources to continue to make steady gains. My goal is to significantly increase my students' abilities in both reading and writing. I am working relentlessly on accomplishing this goal.

My Project

My project involves me teaching a group of 26 students who were all below grade level when I started working with them in August. I am a highly qualified teacher who does not teach from textbooks. My students work creatively and I plan learning activities that are interactive. In order to instruct in this way, I need markers, journals, privacy partitions, colored pencils, multi-media tools, lots of pencils, color, space, and time. I have depleted my resources, I have spent hundreds of my personal dollars, and I have another semester to go! My school is very poor, so it's all on me.
