My Students
I teach third grade at a school in a blossoming neighborhood with a diverse population. Many of my students come from low-income families and are emergent bilinguals. Given those circumstances, there is a need among our students for supplies in order to give them equitable opportunities to engage with and be active participants in their learning. During Distance Learning in spring, it became clear that not all of my students had access to materials needed to feel successful. My hope is to change that!
My students are bright, resilient, caring, and curious children who love learning and collaborating with each other.
Students at our school treasure the safe and empowering community we have built. As an official International Baccalaureate and STEAM school, we encompass the whole-child learning approach. It is an inquiry-based, student-centered, program where students work collaboratively to solve problems. We want to make sure that we continue this type of unique experience while learning from home.
My Project
My students are about to embark on a virtual adventure through Distance Learning as they become third graders for the very first time! My goal is to provide them with a variety of supplies so that each student can access the curriculum and feel proud of their work. My hope is that these learning kits will give all of my students the access they need to feel empowered and to take agency over their own learning.
Equity in education is critical and providing my students with what they need to be successful is my aspiration.
In spring, I discovered, that in order for my students to engage in the online educational experience, it was necessary for them to have the tools for optimal learning. The students that had access to what they needed were more empowered and took agency over their learning. Wouldn't it be great to empower all of them no matter the circumstances?
