My Project

I love teaching STEAM. I love to see my students excited and hands on with learning and projects that will guide their future successes.

These materials will help me teach the basic life skill of sewing while incorporating history (the underground railroad) and mathematic skills (measuring & patterns).

Picture my K-4th graders recreating patterns from historical quilts that helped free slaves from the south by using their research skills and prior measuring and patterning knowledge.

I will be using the requested sewing and quilting machine, as well as the cutting tools, fabric, and thread to create a 9 patch quilt with my K-4th students. Each grade level and homeroom class will have a different responsibility in the completion of the project.

How could this not be a memory for all my students for the years to come? I love to challenge my students and allow them to see their successes.
