Many of my students are on free and reduced lunch and come from low-income households where educational resources are very limited. The love that they have towards school and learning at such a young age, amazes me. Such love gives me the drive I need to be the best teacher for them and provide them with whatever they need to succeed.
My students walk into the classroom every day full of life, excited to learn and eager to see what is in store for them each day.
However, despite the challenges they face at home they always enter school with smiling faces and ready minds.
My Project
Regardless of the backgrounds or personal challenges of my students, they all possess a awesome desire to learn and be successful at each educational task that they encounter.My students love going to centers every day. They love being able to use different manipulatives to learn with. I strive to keep my students guessing and excited towards learning by changing out the materials on a frequent basis. Each year my center materials, take a lot of wear of tear from constant usage.
Learning is our superpower and our kryptonite is a lack of effective resources to engage young minds.
Completing worksheets after worksheets is boring, students lose focus quickly which can lead to behavior issues. Literacy and math centers provide my young learners opportunities to actively participate in engaging learning experiences independently, in a small group, or even with a partner. It's a time where they can be their own teacher!. We need games and activities that will catch their interests, make them want to participate, and most importantly, activities that will help my students have a great time while learning!
The donations for this project will allow students the opportunity to practice their math and reading skills and build a foundation that will assist them through out their educational journey and beyond the classroom setting. Students will use tangrams, pattern blocks and counters to develop number sense. They will use answer boards during whole group and small group teaching times. Pillows will be provided for students to use in the reading center. Students will also be able to use magnetic letters and unifix letter cubes to spell out words. With access to fun activities, students will be able to create, explore, and learn about literacy and math in ways that encourage interaction and expanding upon skills being taught!
