One of the characteristics of Second Graders that I love the most is their enthusiasm to learn, and one of the ways I support their motivation is with playing music in my classroom. Students respond well to background music while they do their independent writing work, and especially when we do art and craft projects in my classroom. My students also enjoy hearing relaxing music during their after-recess cool down time.
Unfortunately, my 15 year old classroom portable CD player recently called it quits, and I'd love to bring the joy of background or meditation music back into my classroom.
I've been using my laptop in the meantime on occasion, but I really miss the ease and convenience of just pressing the play button whenever classroom music is desired. I also miss being able to play read-aloud book CD's for my students who need reading support.
