Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Research shows that using music with children in special education classrooms improves productivity. Music helps keep children engaged in their lessons. Children with special needs respond effectively with music therapy. Without a doubt, an iPad and speaker system would benefit our special education classroom!
My school is a Title I school that is located in Los Angeles County where most of our students come from low-income households.
About 93% of the students receive free lunch. My students are not only diverse in their cultural background but also in their learning styles. My class is a special education class with a large number of English learners. My students are in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade.
My students need extra support to be able to learn and be successful. They are visual and kinesthetic learners who learn best with hands-on materials such as manipulatives and through music. Despite these hardships and challenges, my students show perseverance.
My Project
English Language Learners are increasing in number and are an important focus in my special education class. With the addition of the iPad and speaker system to our classroom, my students will be able to use access a wide variety of music.
The iPad will open up doors for the diverse visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners in my classroom.
The iPad will become a tool to help create authentic learning, especially for my Autistic and English Language Learner students. The iPad is the ideal device to help support these learners. An iPad can assist in differentiate learning and strengthen language skills to ensure success. Some of the tools that we will use in our classroom include brain music for children. In addition, the iPad will be synced to the stereo speaker system which will in turn give access to lessons to the entire class.
The wide variety of music and apps available on the iPad will keep my students engaged and excited about learning.
