Learning is Fun!

Help me give my students the ability to show their work, both collaboratively and individually, with the LCD Sumei Writing Tablets. I have also included a classroom set of The One and Only Ivan for whole class reading.

My Students

I have energetic students who learn best when they are doing something hands-on. They love technology and are very engaged when we can use technology.

My class is very diverse.

They have very different backgrounds, races, and cultures. Their skill levels are as diverse as their backgrounds-with some extremely high and some who struggle in all subject areas.

I am looking forward to a year where they can find excitement in learning so they never lose motivation and always strive to improve.

My Project

The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math. Our whiteboards are so old that some of the white has worn off. We use them to model both individual work and collaborative activities. We can use the rewriteable tablet for the same things as white boards, but they are even more engaging than white boards-with the added benefit of an attached pen. The fact that the markers never seem to last, erasers seem to disappear, and the whiteboards slowly become stained and worn out from frequent use hinders student engagement.

The rewriteable tablets allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work.

When something goes awry, students know that they must ask for a new markers quietly to get a new marker, new eraser, or the last choice, pencil and paper. I have gone through 5 packs of markers already (boxes of 12). By having LCD tablets, students will be able to avoid all of these problems and focus on increasing their learning!

I am also requesting a class set of The One and Only Ivan. I have never been able to read a non-textbook with the whole class. I have students who do not have books at home and won't read except at school. This gives them an enjoyable book they can practice fluency on and discuss it with classmates. Books should be enjoyable-not just for gaining knowledge.
