My classroom is made up of 26 eager, energetic, hard-working, and awesome first graders.
I have an inclusion class where there are a variety of needs, learning styles, and developmental levels of the students.
They come from many different backgrounds, where many of them have had difficult obstacles to overcome already at an early age in their life. Several of them really lack the confidence needed to work toward their full potential. Many of them find it incredibly challenging to focus and pay attention throughout the entire school day. Our school is a Title I school and has a large low-socioeconomic population, which means there is a large percentage of students receiving free and reduced lunch.
My students are eager to learn and love to show off what they are learning at home. I am requesting sight word games and phonics games including: a sight word sea-shell game; pop and learn sound games; tower of sight word games, and interactive board games for phonics skills. These games will be sent home with students to play with their families for extra practice. Games will also be used at school for small groups and parent volunteers. These games will enhance student learning by making it fun and interactive!
When you build the connection between home and school, children benefit tremendously.
Research shows that when bridging these two worlds together, students will do better in school, teachers gain high self-esteem, and parents become empowered and invested in their child's education.
My goal as an educator is to provide students and parents with ample learning opportunities. These phonics and sight word games will allow me to increase parent participation with high quality, interactive, and engaging materials that their child will love to use to assist them in the learning process.
