At Eastport Elementary the students and teachers have been working the past two years to build an inventing program and innovative mindset a priority in our school.
The people of Downeast Maine are known for hard work and ingenuity.
Our students are no different.
Our students except challenges head-on and work to be practical problem solvers. They have shown an aptitude for inventing. However, many students are economically disadvantaged and struggle to get the supplies needed to build and test their inventions.
My Project
Our school competes in invention convention, where students get the opportunity to identify a problem and use the engineering design process to research design and test solutions. Over the past two years, I have seen immeasurable growth in my students. They have become confident problem solvers. Not only has this applied to science but has improved their overall confidence and self-image as learners.
Our 3rd-6th-grade math and science room needs robots, maker space materials, rivets, and gears to help our students turn their inventions into actual working prototypes.
By donating materials to our class you are helping us raise our next generation of tradesmen and tradeswomen, engineers, and inventors.
