Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our classroom community resides in an inner-city public school in a low-socioeconomic area. The students I work with are all Deaf or hard of hearing (some with additional disabilities) and range in grade levels from 3rd-5th grades. More than 50% are culturally and linguistically diverse students who speak other languages at home.

What makes these students so amazing is the care and compassion they have for one another.

They are always looking out for others and are amazing advocates for themselves and those around them. Each student strives to do his or her best with a growth mindset. They are eager and energetic learners and they make going to work every day extremely rewarding!

My Project

Being able to print materials and learning resources in color elicits student interest and engagement. It also allows students learning more complex concepts to gain a better understanding through clear and colorful visual representations. To help promote and build skills in language development and structure for my students, I will be integrating a color-coded system highlighting for them the various parts of speech. In order to do this, I will need a color printer to best provide these materials to them.

Students with hearing loss generally learn best through visual and tactile ways and require visual aids that are most representative of the concepts they are learning.

Whether learning new vocabulary, concepts in various subject areas, or to help support deeper understandings with supplemental materials, being able to print in color is more effective for student learning and understanding.
