My Project

Four years ago, our school was able to develop a fenced in outdoor classroom located on our playground. This is a space where much of what we do in the classroom can be easily translated to the outdoor environment. Our outdoor classroom area is in need of additional learning materials that support: sand, water, construction, science, sensory, and nature exploration.

Our outdoor classroom area provides fresh air, sunshine, open space, curiosity, challenge, and centers focused on areas of inquiry.

The tactile sea shells, realistic sea shells, and sand tools offer sensory exploration, practice of turn taking with peers, and fine motor practice that will be utilized in the sand tables area. The various requested animal collections including: forest, reptile, safari, ocean, and zoo will provide opportunities for students to use our previously acquired varied sized blocks, bricks, and sticks to collaboratively and creatively build a realistic habit for these animals. The requested gems and rocks will be placed in the Science interest area where students can further observe with previously acquired magnifying glasses. Students may classify by size, shape, color, texture, and other properties.
