My Project
Outdoor furniture will make my students be able to engage in our outdoor classroom in a way that is enjoyable and makes students make the connection between the farm to the table. Currently, we have benches in a space with a board for a lesson. However, I would like to provide my students with an area that is for applying what we have learned and enjoying the fruits of their labor. The outdoor picnic table will allow students to sit in the garden and enjoy socializing and eating what they have grown. In this way, it brings the learning full circle as they enjoy the fruits of their labor. Additionally, the greenhouse will protect the seedlings and transplants we are germinating indoors until we are ready to transfer them outside.
A picnic table and benches will round out the STEAM learning that we do in our garden, with a place for students to unwind, eat lunch, and enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Our students are special in that they truly want to learn and appreciate the learning experiences we provide for them. They build upon each other's ideas and give their best effort in spite of what many would recognize as obstacles to overcome.
Our school is going full speed ahead with our STEAM curriculum as our students learn all about gardening and where their food comes from. My goal is for my students to spark a lifetime love of life and learning, and what better way than to attach positive and joyful memories to their learning experiences outdoors and in the classroom. This picnic table and seating will extend the learning into the real world environment, outside the four walls of the classroom!
