Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"If we teach today as we did yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow", John Dewy said, and today's world relies on our knowledge and use of technology. My classroom has access to wireless Internet but it does not possess a single computer, to bring our lessons into the 21st century.
My students are lower middle-class students in second grade.
They are investigative learners that desire to know how and why things are the way they are. Most do not have a computer at home, and much less access to the Internet. Our school has not gotten new computers for over 6 years, and now with budget cuts our school has less money than ever. A purchase of a laptop for our classes is not a reality for my class.
My Project
With a laptop in the classroom, students can have access to such sites as teachertube.com that have educational slides and videos that are appropriate for the students to view. Students will also be able to use it in small group time to research concepts and themes that are presented in class. Lastly, our math program provides us with a CD-Rom with interactive math games that provide hands-on, fun math games for students to test their knowledge on fractions, addition, counting money and more!
With your help my students will be one step further in learning how to use the Internet to make abstract concepts and ideas more concrete.
They will learn to broaden their research skills and learn that computers are a vital resource tool and important to learning in the 21st century.
