My students need various seating options added to our classroom to allow us flexibility and comfort when learning. We need wobble chairs, soft seats and balance ball seats.
I work at a beautiful Title 1 school located in Los Alamos, New Mexico. My school has about 550 active students and 75 dedicated staff members.
My students are absolutely amazing!
We have a little bit of everything all tied up in each classroom. There are students from all cultures and backgrounds, ELLs (English Language Learners), and high/low socioeconomic status; all with various learning styles. Through our many differences, we learn about each other, our community, and the world we live in. They surprise me every day!
My Project
I am asking for more flexible seating options within the classroom. I have been using a few flexible seating options for a couple years and have seen a LARGE improvement in focus and motivation to learn when students get to choose their seats and HOW they learn.
I am pro-flexible seating and believe that every student (and adult!) learns differently.
Students that need to fidget get to wiggle around while maintaining focus. Some students need/want to stand because they dislike sitting all day. Several students even like to lay down on the rug.
Although this may look chaotic to "traditional" classroom settings, these kids thrive and are able to focus when being able to choose their own learning method.
