it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This has been my very first year as a teacher and I have been loving every second of it so much that I even signed up to teach during the summer break! However, because it is summer break and students should be enjoying their days away from school, I want to reward those who are dedicated to learning and want to continue on instead of taking a break. The best thing about being a summer school teacher is that they are allowing me the freedom to teach any subject of my choice! Some like to call me Ms. Green-Thumb on campus because I am always planting flowers and pulling weeds on recess breaks or after school. I want to pass on my passion for nature to my 1st grade students. I plan to do this by introducing them to the wonderful life process of butterflies, and all that comes with it. Students will experience the process of planting seeds for these butterflies, watching their eggs appear on the leaves, and keeping track of the life cycle from caterpillar to butterfly.
Students will thrive in this one-of-a-kind, hands-on experience that will introduce them to the key factors in starting a garden for edible food and to take care of important garden friends like butterflies and worms.
Being able to grow their own foods that can be taken home to be shared with family is a rewarding job that people of all ages can learn to love and appreciate. Summer school for my students will not be dreaded, and they will look forward to coming everyday and learning new things about being in nature, growing a garden, and taking care of plants and animals around us.
