This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As part of their science education, students learn about ecosystems, with a particular emphasis on our own native Everglades ecosystem. Students are taught about the keystone species which help define our ecosystem, about the energy pyramid which connects life within it, and about the invasive species threatening our local habitats.
Every year, the school organizes a camping trip out into the Everglades to allow students to learn about our beautiful local ecosystem firsthand, not just from the pages of a book.
It's impossible to describe how much students enjoy this experience, and how much they learn from visiting the place in real life. These sleeping bags and mess kits will allow me to take even more of my students out into the wilderness, helping them learn more science firsthand and develop a stronger connection with nature!
